A fixed energy price sounds safe. But is it really?

Open Letter to Minister Depraetere and All Flemish Families

Dear Madam Minister,
Dear Families,

Today, you announced that energy suppliers will be required to offer fixed energy contracts. We understand the intention: bringing calm in turbulent energy times. However, we also feel the need to make a broader appeal. Not for or against fixed contracts, but for awareness, insight, and smart choices.

Because the real challenge today is not the lack of fixed contracts.
The real challenge is that we collectively need to learn how to handle energy differently.

We live in a world where energy prices are no longer predictable, where renewable energy is becoming increasingly important, and where smart technology allows us to make a real impact, on your bill and the climate.

In such a world, it is not self-evident that fixed contracts offer the best protection. Fixed prices give a sense of security, but also disconnect you from dynamic benefits. You often overpay for months while the market declines. You consume on autopilot, without direction or optimization. That’s why we do not call for banning fixed contracts, but rather for a shift in awareness.

  • Don't be led solely by fear or headlines.

  • Learn about your consumption.

  • Choose an energy partner who guides you, not restricts you.

  • Use technology to make smarter decisions.

With the right information, support, source, and contract, energy is one of the easiest ways to save money today and contribute to a more sustainable future simultaneously.

Our CEO Yassine Hasnaoui sums it up as follows:
“Fixed contracts seem safe, but you often overpay for months because market prices are constantly dropping. In a fast-changing energy market, flexibility is more important than ever.”

At Ecofix Gas & Power, we believe in transparency, freedom of choice, and smart energy. Not to be against, but to move forward. We urge all citizens to better understand their situation and choose the contract that truly suits them.

And we ask you, Madam Minister, not only to focus on mandatory offerings but also on information duty, guidance, and innovation.

Because energy is only truly safe when you understand what you’re signing up for.
